Technical Manager for the national Energy Conservation and Environmental Project (ECEP), Development Research and Technological Planning Center (DRTPC), Cairo University. The USA consultation firms to ECEP were both Overseas Bechtel Inc. and Hagler Bailly Consulting Inc. ECEP was funded through a USAID grant of 68 million US$ (US-AID project # 263-0140). My responsibilities included carrying on and supervising energy conservation projects in industrial planets and commercial buildings. The energy conservation projects included applications such as efficient lighting systems, cogeneration, power factor improvement, energy management systems, demand management, waste heat recovery and combustion control. The activities involved energy audits, technical & financial feasibility studies, energy pricing sensitivity, specification writing, bid evaluation and economical analysis. I have worked on and assisted in writing/reviewing/presenting about 14 technical manuals on energy conservation. Participated in organizing and coordinating over 45 training workshops in the different fields of energy, DSM, financing energy projects, tariffs and energy/environmental organizational build up.

My direct responsibilities include carrying on the activities of i) the Energy Business Development component including ESCOs, financing forms, Market assessment- development, and regulatory frame of work; ii) Energy Efficiency component including technical and financial feasibility of such applications and . The Egyptian Electricity Authority coordinates this project (it is a 4.5 year project with a total budget of 5.1 million US $ fund).

Associated consultant with Hagler Bailly Consulting Inc. on an Electricity Pricing Study in the Arab Republic of Egypt under a USAID contract (ref. #263-94-p-039). The study had a generation planning model, a tariff model and a financial model. The study took into consideration the expansion plan for the Egyptian Electricity Authority, system forecast, loading conditions, losses, fuel pricing and available funding sources, loans and prevailing national economical parameters.
