Importance of Optimum Usage of Energy
Energy is the core of the civilization and welfare progress, and the demand of the power increases as the development rate increases.
As the natural resources of power like fuel and natural gas are limited, there is a need to set policies for the optimum usage of these resources in order to:
- Save these recourses and extend its life time.
- Increasing the excess susceptible for exporting.
- Reducing the production cost of goods and services.
- Limiting the large expenses burden on the state for energy services.
- Protection of environment by limiting the air pollution and impurities accompanied with the power production activities.
- Optimum Usage of Energy for Air Conditions (A/C)
- Select that type and model which has the least power consumption.
- Select the optimum capacity which best fit the size of the place to be conditioned, taken into consideration all windows.
- Make sure that the thermostat is properly functioning.
- Make sure of closing all windows and doors before turn on the A/C.
- Make sure that no sun rays enter the area to be conditioned.
- Don't turn on extra lights in the area to be conditioned.
- Pay attention to the periodic maintenance of the A/C and cleaning of its filter periodically.
- Be careful for operating the A/C only when it is required, and turn it off when there is no need.
- Optimum Usage of Energy for Refrigerators
- Select that type and model which has the least power consumption.
- Make sure that the thermostat is properly functioning and properly adjusted to the suitable temperature suitable for the seasons.
- Avoid repeated opening of the refrigerator door even for short time.
- Do periodic cleaning for the refrigerator internally and externally.
- Avoid accumulation of ice inside the freezer of the refrigerator.
- Inspect the door rubber seal periodically to be sure of its effectiveness.
- Remove dusts accumulated on the rare air-condenser.
- Make sure that the refrigerator placed in a well ventilated area, and that it is not less than 10c.m apart from rare wall.
- Don't put hot foods directly in the refrigerator, and wait until the food lost its heat before putting it in the refrigerator.
- Optimum Usage of Energy for Iron
- Select iron that have a metallic surface.
- Adjust the thermostat to have the temperature suitable to cloth to be ironed.
- Spray a little of water before ironing.
- Don't do any other job while ironing.
- Disconnect the iron from power just after you finish ironing.
- Optimum Usage of Energy for Water Heater
- Adjust the heat temperature between 50ْ c to 60 ْc in winter.
- Turn off the heater if you didn't need it for a long period.
- Make sure that all pipe junctions are correct without brakeage.
- Don't profuse the hot water without usage.
- Make sure that the thermostat is properly functioning.
- Pay attention for the periodic maintenance of the heater.
- Optimum Usage of Energy for Washing Machine
- Use the cold or worn water as you can if it is suitable.
- Don't operate it before it become loaded completely.
- Select the right program for operation.
- Open the door after finishing the program.
- Optimum Usage of Energy for Lightening
- It is preferable to use the fluorescent lamps that has high efficiency.
- It is preferable to designate on/off switch for each lamp if there are more than one lamp in the area.
- To increase the light intensity use the light reflectors and periodically clean it and the lamps from dust.
- Use the white or light painting for all walls to make use of light intensity.
- Turn off lights each time you leave the area even for minutes.
- Use the oriented lights for specific purpose (like reading) instead of main lights.
- Optimum Usage of Energy for Buildings
- Pay attention for elevators periodic maintenance.
- Pay attention for good use of elevators.
- It is preferable to use stairs for descending instead of elevators.
- Pay attention to prevent usage of elevators for furniture or wastes charging.
- Don't exaggerate using lights in different occasions.
